I'd say as time goes by we are taking more and more steps in equality, but the hippies of the 60's helped advocate for most people. They took us farther than most.

1960's is when the civil rights was passed however u could take it back to 1940's when after ww2 Truman stopped discrimination within the army, he was the first peesident to really support the rights of black people since lincoln
