@Daliak Well technically it wasn't confirmed that they are related. In the anime they said Mikasa was the last of her kind ( meaning race) and she had a different dad (not kenny). Also just because they have the same last name, doesn't mean they're related. I know many people with the last name "smith" or "johnson" ect. Isayama has actually been asked if they were related and he said "They may or may not be related. You, as readers, will never know the true answer" (as close as the translation will get)
