just drum it into him, he won't like it but guys usually need it spelling out! This shouldn't be a big issue really - especially if you don't live with him, just remember studies won't last forever then you can spend more time with him. I've been with my gf almost nine years , when she was at Uni we lived 250 miles apart but still managed to make it work. I'd visit once or twice a month and the time together was awesome because the time apart made the heart fonder in all that! just be honest it'll work out
