Are you a feminist? Why or why not?

I support feminist ideas of equality and so on but i don't like the extreme feminists who believe women are better than men

i asked a question about double standards in the world which is basically on the same topic as this

@Llew there's a lot of double standards I agree. However in my country, a lot of things for women, like birth control, are decided for them by men in office. Which to me isn't right.

And you can be denied access to free birth control if your boss is against it.

i would also just like to mention that during ww1 and ww2, feminists handed out white feathers to men or male teens who weren't in uniform in public to symbolise their cowardice over not joining the army. They particularly targeted injured soldiers as they were a "burden to their wives". This caused many men to commit suicides

Yes, men have problems that need to be fixed. But I think the gender who needs some real help right now is the female.

but my point is, women aren't the only ones who have suffered. Equality is when both are treated equally therefore feminism should support men as well as women, whereas some people take feminism to far and think they are better than men and give it a bad name

My 10-year old little sister is just starting to feel the effects of sexism. I see her confidence deteriorating. It's so sad. I remember at Gettysburg last year, she saw the pictures of all the soldiers on the wall, and confusedly asked "why are there no girls?"

To an extent I would consider myself a feminist but also not, it really depends on the situation. But I think that nowadays being a feminist is almost a moot point, we are pretty much as equal as men in most areas. But in regards to sexism I think men experience it more because when a man says something derogatory about a woman, every jumps in and calls him a sexist pig etcetera & while I'm not saying that he was justified my point is that when a woman makes a sexist comment about men very few people make a fuss & jump to sexism. I think that we need to let go of feminism because its hurting us to feel like we need to fight as a group rather than individually prove our merit.

I'm not saying that's right but I feel like men SOMETIMES get more pressure because everyone expects it of them. I'm not saying that we women don't get pressured, we do & we have to work harder but I'm just saying that sometimes we don't look at it as both sides have problems with equality sometimes we forget that they struggle for equality too in some aspects

I guess I'm a feminist because I believe in equality, but I also think people make a huge deal outta something that isn't there. Sexism is barely a problem anymore, and men are equally victimized by the small amount of sexism out there, so it's a bit ridiculous to act like women are treated so horribly. Be happy you're not a woman in the middle east; that'd suck. If it was that shitty everywhere, then sure, I'd freak out and join some huge feminist campaign and shiz. But we have it fine here in America, over in the UK and most places it seems.
