What is the name of the substance that gives color to skin?

It's the first one.

White people don't have as much melanin as they lived in cold tempts, but that doesn't mean all white people need to have white pasty skin

I have olive skin cause I am Southern European and more sun hits there, doesn't make me any less white just cause I have Olive skin. Olive skin comes in shades of colors and not just one though.

It can range from very light skin to very brownish. I would say I'm like more on the light skin side, but not super light skin. I mean as you can tell from my pic.
