It depends. English riding takes more practice than western so if you're doing English, then I would recommend lessons.

Yes! If you do, I suggest English, it's how I ride. In my opinion it's easier to ride English but lessons are advised no matter what style you choose

@a person @Gail, the barn I'm taking lessons does English, so that's what I'm learning.

@Ashley{FPS}👮{ACS}👊 I do horseback riding and it's super expensive but fun. It's great to know how to ride and you Lear how to take care of the horses

@Peridot In western there is a knob on the saddle. Anyone can do western and English riding doesn't have a knob and you have to have lessons to know how to ride

@MissUSA♥️{FPS}-{PVG} that's so not true. You can't just hop on the horse and be able to ride if you're riding Western. My friend had to take many private lessons before she could go out on her own.

@Ashley{FPS}👮{ACS}👊 It kind of depends on if you have a natural ability or not. Personally I have been able to ride a horse since I was very small, Western and English, but I have never taken a lesson in my life.

@Ashley{FPS}👮{ACS}👊 And while I'm not saying riding is easy, Western has typically been seen as not as difficult or "posh" as English.

Western is easier than English because English saddles don't have much support if you were to lose balance. I ride western and English but I prefer western saddles. I barrel race and I'm learning to show jump

You can't just hop on a horse and automatically know how to ride without taking lessons unless you grew up around horses, but as @a person said it just depends on you having the natural ability
