Does not because they are your bodies main source of energy. If you don't get enough then your body takes from your protein supply and diminishes the fuel in your bones and body. Not to mention the protein sugars and energy do not get transported to the brain and therefore there is a lack of overall energy. Plus you will go into starvation mode and gain the weight back plus more.
