Well he chansawed it off apparently part of his image

He cut it of an then sent it to his girlfriend. The reason why I don't know but I think it was because van Goff had a lt of mental illness's and he was crazy lol so yea Maybe that's why

He got in an argue men at a bar with another artist and chased the guy down the street with a razor. Then, he cut off his own ear, and gave it to his prostitute friend, making her faint (there was blood). He almost died from blood loss. It's not sure what mental illness he had, but he was in and out of asylums.

No his best friend, another famous artist, and him were in a very bad argument. Out of anger, he wanted to hurt his friend so bad but he cut off his own ear instead
